Launching :
2009 Open Architecture Challenge: Classroom

Brief :
According to the World Bank, putting all children worldwide in school by 2015 will require the construction of 10 million new classrooms spread over 100 countries. At the same time, millions of existing classrooms are in serious need of repair and refurbishment and will need to be upgraded. Meeting this need for learning spaces over the course of the coming decade will constitute, collectively, the biggest building project the world has ever undertaken.

It is time to take back the classroom! Get your school involved, and make your voice heard.Team up with a local architect, builder, designer or architecture student and enter together. If your design wins, your school will receive up to $50,000 in funding to build or upgrade a classroom.[Entries from developing nations are exempt from entry fee.]

                        'Summer of Service'

Architecture for Humanity has received a request from the White House and the Corporation for National & Community Service in regard to the 'Summer of Service' (http://serve.gov). They are looking for organizations with local chapters who are in need of volunteers and AFH is one of the only large-scale 'architecture' focused groups in the country. We've asked our
US base chapters to provide feedback with projects that need volunteers.

We are also hopeful that some of our international chapters might be able to pitch in as well by performing virtual volunteering and provide assistance to a US based chapter.
